How to Apply

The Property Masters Guild currently offers membership to Property Masters in film, television and commercial production, as well as those who work in the property department including those who work at related vendors:​​​

***Membership Dues are tax deductible as a business expense.

Qualifications

The applicant must meet the following criteria to apply for membership into the Property Masters Guild, and complete the below application in its entirety.

Types of Membership

Applications are accepted via the Apply Now button below. All applications are reviewed on a monthly basis by the Membership Committee. Acceptance will be subject to approval by the Property Masters Guild Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified within 60 days of submission.

Any questions can be directed to the Membership Committee via membership@propertymastersguild.org.

  • Years of Experience:

    A submitted resume is required showing at least five TOTAL years as a Property Master. This may include union and non-union work.

    Credits:

    Work in the position of Property Master in ONE of the below categories. If you do not meet the qualifications in any one category, you may submit your entire body of work for review.

    • Commercials: 10 commercials (supported with a minimum of 5 links to the commercials and call sheets with your name listed as Property Master) OR

    • Television: 3 different television series for a combined minimum total of 25 episodes OR

    • Feature Films: 6 feature films

    References:

    Three references from any combination of the following sources:

    • Producers

    • Directors

    • Unit Production Managers

    • Production Designers

    • Set Decorators

    • Assistant Directors

    • Department Heads

    • Fellow Property Masters

    • Members of the PMG

    • Assistants that have worked under the applicant

    • Vendors

  • Years of Experience:

    A submitted resume is required showing at least one year experience working in the Property Department or for a related vendor (prop house, prop shop...).. This may include union and non-union work.

    Credits:

    Work in the Property Department or for a related vendor on at least five productions in Feature Film, Television and/or Commercials.

    References:

    Be sponsored by three Guild members (two must be Property Master or Honorary Property Master members).​

    • Custom listings in Directory available on website featured to Production Designers and Producers

    • Attend Membership Meetings & Board Meetings

    • Ability to Vote in All Membership Votes

    • Access to the Website Resource Portal, Property Master Chat Forum & Newsletter Exclusive to Members

    • Attend Membership Meetings & Board Meetings

    • Ability to Vote in All Membership Votes

    • Attend Membership Meetings & Board Meetings

    • *Honorary Members need not apply via the below form. Please send an introductory email to membership@propertymastersguild.org for review and inclusion.

    • Custom Directory listing in Members Portal featured to Property Master Members

    • Note: Associate Members are not permitted to list PMG after their name in credits

First and foremost, the Property Masters Guild is a community. Never before has there been an organization singularly focused on the needs of Property Masters. As we come together, we have a unique opportunity to support each other, find mentorship, elevate the craft and each other.

PMG Letters

Property Master Members should add the guild letters “PMG” after their name in all production credits. These letters identify them as a qualified Guild member and signify their considerable experience, credentials, and leadership status in the craft to Producers, other department heads, and the general public.

Please note: While Associate members are not permitted to list Guild letters, they are encouraged to identify as Guild members.

The 2024 Inaugural MacGuffin Awards - a Sold Out evening of celebration

Awards

The Property Masters Guild presents the MacGuffin Awards to honor the artistic achievements of Property Masters in film, television and commercial production. This event exclusively celebrates the achievements of Property Masters and their teams, and is the only major industry award show where Property Masters are eligible. This celebration helps position Property Masters as the key artistic contributors they are to the art and design of filmmaking.

A series of advanced classes for working Property Masters

Educational Opportunities

The PMG organizes classes to bring together Property Masters and other industry professionals to learn from each other. These classes are often available free or discounted to members.

The Guild also organizes professional curriculum to standardize the training of future generations and foster qualified craft artists to enter the workforce. By standardizing curriculum, the PMG empowers Property Masters, craft members and producers with unified expectations of what can and should be expected of a Prop Department from an artistic, logistical and safety perspective.

Member Highlights & Press

The Guild features members in media interviews, event panels, comic conventions, industry events, podcasts, and media. Organizing opportunities for members to promote their work and appear as experts in their craft and industry highlights their contributions to filmmaking.

The Members Portal features tools and resources exclusive to members.

Members have access to a members-only portal on the PMG website, a robust platform of resources and tools available exclusively for members to empower them to be more successful in their craft and negotiation needs.

Magazine Subscription

The Guild publishes a quarterly print and digital magazine that distributes to all members as well as producers, production designers and studio offices to highlight props, our members, and the value of our craft.

Hosted on Facebook, the guild maintains a private chat forum for members to openly chat with one another, share work information, and build a supportive community among fellow guild members.
